Dan is doing pretty well. He is taking less and less pain medication everyday and is improving all the time. We have had an interesting 5 days. I get to help him take a bath, wash his hair and face, button his pants and other assorted tasks that are practically impossible with one hand. We've watched a lot of TV and movies and I know he is getting sick of it. My sister came over on Saturday and we went to the park with the family. It was good to get out of the house and enjoy the nice weather. The funnest part of the past 5 days was changing the dressing on the wound!! So, I slowly peel back the many layers of gauze and cotton stuff and first I see the "mistake" the surgeon made. (side note: When the surgeon talked to me after the surgery he told me that one of the instruments malfunctioned and burned the side of Dan's arm. I wasn't very concerned about this at the time. I was more interested in how the surgery went, etc. I imagined it would be a small burn, nothing to be concerned about.) This mistake is HUGE! I will display pictures below. Then I see the incision. It is about five inches long. It still had one piece of gauze on it and it kind of looked like it was stuck. So, I called the doctor's office and they told me to remove it and that there would be some staples in his skin. HOLY SMOKES....there are 21 staples! It is one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen. It looks like something out of a horror movie. You are more than welcome to view the beautiful pictures below. It looks worse in real life!

The "malfunction"....many people have recommended we sue, what do you think?

Ugh! I'm glad I haven't eaten breakfast yet. As for that "malfunction", holy cow!!! Check to see if they charged you for having to fix/stitch up their mistake. I wouldn't pay!!
Oh my gosh you are super nurse Holly I am proud of you! I can't believe the doctor "messed up" that seems like a pretty big slip considering it isn't even close to the original incision. If they didn't list it as a complication that you signed then you could sue but....it is kind of a pain and if it's not going to cause long term damage I say don't hassle with it. Besides what have they said people in the last days will be - "sue happy"! Anyway glad Dan has you to watch over him and I bet it's nice to spend so much time together. IF you are just sitting around (and if you haven't already) you should watch the series LOST we are now officially addicted you can watch all the episodes free online! All our friends kept wanting us to watch it, we tried to put it off and wished we had because, be for warned you will not be able to stop watching. SOrry for the long comment hope all is well!
Oh yeah for sure don't pay for that I wouldn't sue but I would put up a stink and if you tell them you might sue they will probably not charge you for the whole surgery , which they shouldn't
Ouch! That looked pretty gross. I wouldn't sue - we are only human and the mistake wasn't life threatening or anything. But some kind of discount would be nice :)
Ok, the pictures were nasty! Eww! And, I don't know what to tell you about the "mistake." I guess just see if there are any long term effects.
Looks like something from a horror movie. I don't think I could have dealt with that. Good luck with taking care of your patient :)
You are a better wife than I! Not sure I can handle that!
